What is a contact wash?
A contact wash is essential for removing any remaining dirt that a pre-wash may have missed. The shampoo adds a layer of lubrication, allowing your wash mitt to effortlessly glide across the surface, lifting and trapping dirt particles. This ensures that the contaminants are safely pulled away from the paintwork, leaving a clean surface that’s perfectly prepped for the decontamination stage.
What is the safest way to perform a contact wash?
To protect your paintwork from swirls and scratches, it’s essential to follow proper washing techniques. Begin with our Citrus Pre-Wash on the dirtier areas, typically the lower parts of the vehicle. Follow this up with Extreme Snowfoam to capture, loosen, and remove any remaining grime. When moving to the wash stage, use the two-bucket method: one bucket for shampoo and water, and the other with just water for rinsing your wash mitt. This reduces the chance of reapplying dirt, minimising the risk of scratches.
Start by washing your vehicle from the top and work your way down, this way you prevent the dirt from the bottom (usually the dirtiest area) from being dragged to the top. For best results it is also recommended to guide your wash mitt in straight lines rather than circular motions, as this helps further reduce the risk of swirls on your paintwork.
Will washing my car remove any previously applied sealants or waxes?
To preserve the integrity of your sealants and waxes during washes, always opt for a pH-neutral pre-wash and shampoo, such as our Extreme Snowfoam and Peach Fizz Shampoo. These products gently clean while maintaining the protective layers on your vehicle, ensuring long-lasting results.
Why do you have to pre wash before washing?
Pre-washing effectively removes the bulk of dirt without any contact, significantly minimising the risk of scratches on your vehicle. This means that when you move on to the contact wash, only a small amount of stubborn dirt remains, which your wash mitt will safely lift and remove, leaving your vehicle clean and swirl free.
What is the 2 bucket wash method?
The two-bucket wash method involves using one bucket filled with shampoo and water, and a second bucket containing just clean water. Start by dipping your wash mitt into the shampoo solution to gather suds and clean your vehicle.
Once the mitt collects dirt, rinse it thoroughly in the clean water bucket before returning it to the wash bucket. Keep doing this until the vehicle is fully cleaned.
This technique prevents dirt from contaminating the shampoo in the wash bucket, reducing the risk of reapplying grime to your car and helping to avoid swirls and scratches on the paintwork, ensuring a safer, cleaner wash.
